What is Eye Squint Strabismus in Children?

A lazy eye, also known by its medical term amblyopia, is a vision condition that occurs in childhood. A lazy eye in children can develop between birth and the age of seven years old, when one eye is used less than the other. As a result, the affected eye is not able to build a strong link with the brain and will have reduced vision.

Typically, amblyopia only affects one eye, although in rare instances, both eyes may be affected due to a strong glasses prescription. It is estimated that this condition affects around 1 in 50 children.

The exact causes of macular degeneration are still unknown, but certain factors increase the risk of developing AMD.

During these examinations, a specialist optometrist will conduct a macular degeneration test, which involves assessing your vision and examining the back of your eye using a magnifying instrument. In some cases, the optometrist may administer eye drops to facilitate the examination. It’s important to note that these drops may temporarily blur your vision for approximately 4-6 hours. Therefore, it is advisable to avoid driving immediately after your appointment if you have received these drops.
