Pledge Your Eyes
What is Eye Donation?
You may hear people talk about ‘eye donation’, but eyes are never transplanted whole. Eye donation involves donating your corneas, not your iris or the whole eye.
The cornea plays a key role in vision. It refracts or bends incoming light to aid focus on near and distant objects. Damage to the cornea from disease, infection, or injury causes scars or discoloration that can obstruct or distort entering light, impairing sight.
Why Become a Cornea Donor
Pledging to become a cornea donor can make an immense difference in the lives of those living with corneal blindness. How to Become a Cornea Donor
Becoming a cornea donor is a simple process that can profoundly impact those in need. Note that eye tissue is only retrieved from deceased donors, so your pledge will be fulfilled after you’ve passed away.
To become a donor, fill out a pledge form, either online or at our facility. Discuss the form with at least two next of kin, as they will consent to the donation process. Once agreed, they will counter-sign the form.
After completing the pledge, we’ll provide you with a small, portable donor card. The forms are kept confidential, ensuring your privacy.
